5th International Cartoon Contest in Turkey

 

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

1. The topic of the competition: Water and Environment.

We are all aware that the life of all living things depend on water. With the increase in world population, the importance of water has become more prominent. The accumulation of populations in cities rather than rural areas has led to an increase in water consumption and food demand in cities. In addition to reckless water consumption, the excessive use of water in agricultural areas has triggered climate change and negatively affected living things and the environment. As water resources have become insufficient, the damage to the environment caused by unplanned construction and misuse has started to affect all of humanity. As such, the emergence of social, economic, social and political problems have become inevitable with the increasing difficulties in reaching water sources. Water has even become a power that will direct international relations.

Droughts experienced as a natural consequence of water scarcity and absence create a situation where people and all living things, and therefore the environment, cannot meet their water needs.

Unfortunately, we do not know the value of what we have. As humanity, we also show our wastefulness on vital values. While we continue to negatively affect our own future, we also leave great problems for our children and the generations that will come after us.

As Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, we are aware that the environment, whose balance has been disrupted, is rapidly moving towards an even more unlivable situation due to global warming, drought will be a great danger for humanity, thirst will create economic and social problems, and even international relations will be shaped according to water.

As Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, “water and environment” are among our top sensitivities on the way to achieving urbanization where quality life comes to the fore.

We wanted to share our “water and environment” sensitivity with the people of our city and all humanity, and thus wanted to benefit from the magic power of cartoons to create water and environment sensitivity in them.

2. Deadline: Cartoons must be uploaded to https://www.denizli.bel.tr/karikaturyarismasi/ by 00:00 on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the latest.

3. The contest is open to all amateur and professional cartoonists of the world. Members of the selection committee and their first degree relatives cannot participate in the contest. 

4. The cartoons sent to the competition will not be subject to change whether they have been published before or not. However, they must not have received an award in another competition before. Cartoons that the selection committee deems to be the same or similar or that belong to another cartoonist will not be evaluated. If it is understood that the award-winning participants act outside the declarations and acceptances and violate the rules, the award will be canceled. The award, title and all kinds of gains obtained by the participant will be taken back. In this and similar cases, the participant who signs and sends the caricature will be responsible and addressee in all possible disputes, theft and similar claims and copyright issues. 

5. Cartoons produced with artificial intelligence will not be accepted. A maximum of three caricatures can be sent to the contest. 

6. Cartoonists will send their cartoons digitally to our contest. Each cartoon; A4 size, between 150-300 dpi, JPEG format and at least 1 MB and maximum 10 MB. 

7. Some of the cartoons selected by the selection committee among the cartoons sent to the competition will be collected in an album in PDF fotmat and published on the Municipality's website. The works deemed worthy of exhibition will also be exhibited at the place and time Denizli Metropolitan Municipality deems appropriate. No fee will be paid to the works selected for exhibition and album by the selection committee. 

8. One night transportation, accommodation and food expenses of the prize winners will be provided by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality.

10. Prizes:

🥇 First Prize : 70.000 TL

🥈 Second Prize : 50.000 TL

🥉 Third Prize : 30.000 TL

🎖 Honorable Mention (3 Pieces) : 15.000 TL

🏅 Under 18 (2 pieces) : 7.500 TL

🏅 Latif Demirci Special Prize: 20.000 TL

 

11. Competition calendar:

A. Deadline: Sunday, April 6, 2025, hour: 00:00.

B. Jury evaluation meeting: Planned to be held on April 12-13 , 2025.

C. Announcement of the results: Wednesday, April 16, 2025, on Denizli Metropolitan Municipality’s official web page “https://www.denizli.bel.tr/karikaturyarismasi/”.

D. Award ceremony and exhibition: Within the scope of the humor festival on 2 May 2025 Friday 18:00 , Denizli Metropolitan Municipality Turan Bahadır Exhibition Hall (The time and place of the award ceremony and exhibition may be changed by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality).

12. The financial rights of processing defined in Article 21 of the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works No. 5846, duplication defined in Article 22, dissemination defined in Article 23, representation defined in Article 24 and transmission to the public by means of means for transmitting signs, sounds and/or images defined in Article 25 on the works that win awards at the end of the competition and are entitled to be exhibited and included in the album will belong to Denizli Metropolitan Municipality together with the work owner indefinitely. Within the framework of these rights, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality will be able to use/provide for use the work indefinitely, in any medium and in any material content, nationally and internationally, in Turkish or all other world languages, by indicating the name of the work owner.

The participant declares that the work sent to the competition belongs entirely to him/her. Due to this work, the participant undertakes that he/she is the sole and absolute addressee of the requests of third parties that may arise from FSEK No. 5846 and other laws. In addition, the participant accepts that the legal and criminal responsibility for the work belongs entirely to him/her. It undertakes that Denizli Metropolitan Municipality has no legal or criminal liability regarding the issues listed (the right to recourse to the author is reserved). The right of use belongs to the owner of the work and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality as the organizer of the competition.

13. Participants in the competition will be deemed to have accepted the terms of the competition and the decisions of the selection committee in advance. In matters not specified in the specifications or in case of doubt, the Selection Committee will act as an arbitrator in disputes that may arise between the participant and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality. In case of dispute, the Selection Committee is authorized.

15. FINAL PROVISIONS:

A. Accommodation, transportation (bus and plane tickets for only 1 person) and meals for the winners of the competition who will attend the award ceremony will be covered by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality.

B. Accommodation, transportation (bus and plane tickets) and meals will be covered for the award-winning participant under the age of 18 and one of his/her guardians.

C. Transportation (plane and bus ticket), food and accommodation expenses of the members of the selection committee who wish to attend the award ceremony will be covered by Denizli Metropolitan Municipality.

D. The awards (documents, plaques, etc.) of those who cannot attend the ceremony despite winning an award will be sent to the addresses of the contestants, and the financial awards will be deposited into their bank accounts. In the event that the right holder does not inform the IBAN number, the prize money will expire after 1 year from the date the results are announced. In case of lapse of time, the rights holder cannot claim any prize, copyright, etc. (Shipping fees will be deducted from the net money paid to the contestants).
