🖋️ Who Was Panait Istrati (1884 – 1935)
📚 A Romanian writer and journalist, often called "the Gorky of the Balkans", he was known for his deeply humanistic works that celebrated struggle, freedom, and honesty of spirit, writing in both French and Romanian, his stories explored poverty, justice, and the eternal hope for a more humane world.
🪶 Among his best-known works are Kyra Kyralina and On the Danube’s Mouth, his life reflected the tension between belief in humanity and the hardship of the creative soul confronting oppressive systems and ideals.
