Memorial Cartoon Exhibition Opens in Honor of the Late Cartoonist Damir Novak

🇭🇷 On June 5, 2026, the Memorial Cartoon Exhibition dedicated to the late Croatian cartoonist Damir Novak has opened in Mali Mihaljevec, Croatia, bringing together family members, fellow artists, officials, and cartoon enthusiasts to celebrate the life and extraordinary artistic legacy of one of Croatia's most respected cartoonists.

 

🖼️ The exhibition showcases a remarkable selection of Novak's cartoons, reflecting decades of witty satire, social commentary, and unmistakable artistic style that earned him admiration from readers and cartoon lovers around the world.

 

 

💬 During the emotional opening ceremony, Novak's granddaughter, Emily Makšadi, paid tribute to her grandfather, emphasizing that while his artistic achievements were extraordinary, his greatest legacy was the warmth, kindness, and joy he shared with everyone around him.

 

🏅 Representatives of local authorities highlighted Novak's outstanding contribution to Croatian culture. It was also announced that he was posthumously awarded the prestigious Zrinski Award in recognition of his lifelong dedication to art and his lasting impact on the cultural identity of the Međimurje region.

 

 

🌍 Throughout his distinguished career, Damir Novak received 95 national and international awards, with his cartoons exhibited and honored across Europe, Asia, and North America. He was also the founder and organizer of the International Cartoon Festival in Čakovec and the Humor Days in Mali Mihaljevec, playing a significant role in promoting cartoon art both locally and internationally.
