The International Cartoon Exhibition on Road Safety themed 'Towards Safer Roads' kicked off yesterday at the Kelantan Art Gallery in Kota Bharu, Malaysia.
The state art gallery is showcasing more than 60 artworks from the 1st of August for a duration of two months till the 30th of September 2022. The artworks of the world's most renown cartoonists are displayed on 2ft x 3ft canvas print.
The exhibition is held following an international cartoon contest on 'Towards Safer Roads' organized by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Balai Kartun Rossem (BKR) in 2021. The contest attracted more than 300 cartoonists from 51 countries in all five continents.
The road safety messages ranging from the seatbelt safety, the danger of drink driving, the bad implications of excessive speeding, the importance of using pedestrian crossing to the danger of mobile phone while driving, to name a few.
Nevertheless, the messages are expressed in humorous and creative manners, and yet embedded with elements of criticism and cynicysm too.
"These are high level and intellectual kind of artworks in the form cartoon drawings. And I'm really pleased that these world class cartoons are being displayed here in the Kelantan Art Gallery," said the BKR manager and owner Rosedi Semail, who is better known as Rossem.
"It's interesting to see how cartoonists from different parts of the world creatively expressed their views on road safety in order to make roads safer for everyone," he said.
"Each and everyone of them, through his or her artwork contributes to road safety," added Rossem.
Thus, we would like to call art and cartoon lovers in Malaysia, especially those in Kelantan not to miss this great opportunity. Make your trip to Balai Seni Lukis Kelantan and learn a lesson or two on road safety and high level artworks in the form of cartoon drawings.
Keep in mind that the road safety messages are for greater good.
