🗞️ In a renewed celebration of cartoon art as a global form of expression that reflects human concerns with a satirical spirit, the official catalog of the 8th International Cartoon Gathering has been officially released, the event took place in August 2024 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
This gathering is considered one of the most prominent artistic events dedicated to cartoon art in Egypt and the Arab region, the organizing committee received 510 artworks, submitted by 318 artists from 60 countries around the world. After a careful selection process, 270 artworks were chosen to be exhibited, created by 246 artists from 54 Arab and foreign countries.
✏️ Two Main Themes of the Gathering:
1. Cartoon Section:
Featured a remarkable collection of works addressing critical and timely issues such as: Pollution and climate change and their negative impact on the planet, the risks of artificial intelligence, women's rights and social concerns, the dangers of social media, and other urgent humanitarian topics.
2. Caricature Portrait Section:
In tribute to the iconic Egyptian comedian Samir Ghanem, a special exhibition showcased caricature portraits of the beloved artist created by a wide range of cartoonists from around the world, the section also included portraits of the renowned Spanish comedy figure José Luis López Vázquez, as Spain was selected as the Guest of Honor for this edition.
The catalog features a refined artistic design that reflects the spirit of the gathering. It includes the selected artworks, artist profiles, and visual documentation of the exhibition’s events and accompanying activities, most notably the seminar titled "Youth and Cartoon Art", and the traditional Tanoura dance performance that brought a joyful atmosphere to the opening ceremony.
This catalog stands as an important visual and cultural reference, documenting the participation of international artists and honoring the legacy of the late artist Mohamed Hakam, affectionately known as "The Philosopher of Cartoon".
